
The Permanent Endowment Fund for Martha’s Vineyard is the Vineyard’s community foundation. It was established in 1982, and is one of more than 500 community foundations.

A Committee of nine Vineyarders oversees and guides the operation of the Permanent Endowment Fund in accordance with the Agreement and Declaration of Trust, as amended. The Board met formally on February 25, 2005, April 28, 2005, June 1, 2005, August 9, 2005, and September 29, 2005. Copies of its Proceedings for each year are filed with the Trustee on May 20th of the following year.
Dukes County Savings Bank, Successor Trustee, administers and manages all participating funds.
The Permanent Endowment Fund for Martha’s Vineyard is a community foundation qualifying as a public charity under Internal Revenue Code Section 170(b)(1)(A)(vi) and is exempt from Federal income taxes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code (Federal I.D. #04-2774790). The Fund is also a registered Massachusetts charitable trust (Attorney General’s Account #016207). Accordingly, all gifts to this Vineyard community foundation are tax-deductible to the extent provided by law.
HIGHLIGHTS OF OUR 23rd YEAR
Awarded $50,000.00 in scholarships through a grant from the Lumina/Darrell Scholarship Fund to expand access to college for individuals who are the first in their family to attend college or for individuals where English is a second language.
Awarded $51,250.00 in additional scholarships from other funds.
Awarded M.J. Bruder Munafo the Creative Living Award for her involvement in local theatre programs as Director of The Vineyard Playhouse and her work within the Island Elementary Schools, educating children on the process of playwriting, producing, and performing.
Awarded $1,500.00 to the Windemere Nursing and Rehabilitation for the purchase of a defibrillator unit.
Awarded $3,000.00 to Vineyard House for assistance in funding basic life skills classes and a case manager position.
Awarded $2,000.000 to Island Health Care to help subsidize prescription expenses for uninsured patients.
Awarded $2,000.00 to the Oak Bluffs Council on Aging on behalf of South Shore Community Action Council to provide fuel assistance for five additional island families.
